Every card has a history — we're building the record
Modern memory cards keep a detailed account of their own lives. We read it, and we're building a database that tells you which card is right for the job.
Most people treat a memory card as a black box: it works, or one day it doesn’t. But a modern card’s controller keeps a surprisingly detailed account of its own life — how much it’s been written, how many blocks it has retired, whether it’s genuine, how close it is to the end of its rated life. Most of that record is never read. We read it, on every card that passes through our line.
What a card will tell you, if you ask
Our ASTRID tools query the controller directly — the same low-level vendor commands the manufacturers use — and pull out what a card actually knows about itself:
- True capacity, so a fake 256 GB card that’s really 32 GB is caught before it fails in service.
- Real wear — erase counts and remaining life read from the silicon, not estimated from age.
- Retired blocks, the early warning that a card is heading for trouble.
- Authenticity — the tells that separate a genuine industrial card from a re-marked consumer part wearing an industrial label.
From single cards to a picture of the market
Read one card and you know about one card. Read thousands, and something more useful appears. We’re building a database of how real cards behave in the field: which ranges genuinely last, which quietly fail early, which get counterfeited, how different controllers wear under different workloads.
That record grows with every card we handle, and it turns individual readings into something you can plan with.
So we can recommend, not just sell
The point of all that data is a simple question we can answer honestly: which card is right for your application?
A dashcam fleet writing continuously all day is a very different job from a device that logs a few kilobytes an hour. The right card for one is the wrong card for the other — and buying the wrong one is expensive whether it fails too soon or you over-specified it. Because we’ve measured how these cards actually behave, we can point you at the right one for your duty cycle, your temperature range and your budget, and back the recommendation with evidence.
Buying media shouldn’t be guesswork. Tell us what your application does and we’ll tell you what to put in it.
